Every whole bean coffee in this category is 100% Arabica, freshly roasted at our JAVA Coffee Roasters facility. You will find coffees suited to both espresso and filter brewing — for everyday drinking at home or in the office.

If you need it ground, we will grind your coffee for free just before dispatch — simply match the grind to your brewing method of choice.

Whole bean coffee is coffee in its most natural form after roasting — whole beans, unground. Before it reaches your cup, it travels a long way: it ripens as a coffee cherry, is harvested, processed (natural, washed, or honey), and then roasted at over 200°C, a process that unlocks hundreds of aromatic compounds.

Unlike pre-ground coffee, whole bean keeps its aromas locked inside the bean's structure — they are released only at the moment of grinding. This makes it significantly fresher and more aromatic than ready-ground blends. Compared to capsules, it gives complete freedom — to experiment with grind size, dose, and brewing method, finding a new dimension in the same coffee every morning.

Roasting is the heart of coffee. Lighter roasts bring more acidity and fruitiness — darker roasts shift toward bitterness, smokiness, and chocolate. Choose based on what you want in your cup:

• light roast — fruity, floral, citrus
• medium roast — balanced, nutty, caramel
• dark roast — chocolate, smoky, full body.

Not every bean works in every machine. For automatic (bean-to-cup) espresso machines, blends and darker roasts perform best — they produce creamy espresso with a dense crema. For drip, V60, or AeroPress, light and medium-roasted single origins are ideal — filter methods bring out their complex fruity and floral aromas. French press favours oily beans and a coarser grind.

• Ethiopia. Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee — wild-growing coffee trees and a cultivation tradition spanning centuries. Beans from the Yirgacheffe region are known for their intense floral aroma and citrus acidity: bergamot, jasmine, lemon. Coffees from Sidama and Harrar lean toward a fruity, berry-forward profile with a velvety sweetness.
• Colombia. One of the most recognised origins on the world coffee map. Beans from Valle del Cauca and Huila offer a classic arabica profile: cherry, red apple, gentle acidity, and a light caramel sweetness. Balanced, clean, consistent — coffee that rarely disappoints.
• Brazil. The world's largest coffee producer and the country where natural processing has been perfected. Beans from Minas Gerais and São Paulo deliver full body, low acidity, and a flavour profile built on chocolate, hazelnuts, and brown sugar. An excellent blend base — adding depth and creaminess.
• Guatemala. Guatemalan coffees are defined by character. Volcanic soil and cool nights in the Huehuetenango and Antigua regions give the beans a distinct apple-plum acidity, dark chocolate, and a light smoky finish. These coffees stand out for their complexity and intensity.
• Kenya. Kenya is among the most prized origins in the specialty coffee world. Beans from the slopes of Mount Kenya and the Nyeri region carry a vivid, wine-like acidity, a profile of redcurrant and blackcurrant, and a long, fruit-forward finish. Kenyan coffees are genuinely expressive.
• Costa Rica. The first country in the world to legally ban robusta cultivation — only arabica grows here. Beans from Tarrazú and Tres Ríos offer clean, bright, and sweet profiles: peach, apricot, honey, with a gentle acidity and creamy body. Costa Rican coffees are defined by clarity and elegance.

Store beans in an airtight, opaque container, away from light and moisture. Avoid freezing beans unless you are storing them long-term — condensation each time the container is opened degrades the bean's structure.

Which whole bean coffee is best for an automatic espresso machine?

Blends of arabica with robusta, or darker-roasted arabica beans, work best in automatic machines — they produce creamy espresso with a dense crema. Very light single origins can result in over-acidity under pressure extraction. How long can whole bean coffee be stored?

Whole bean coffee holds its full aroma for approximately 4–6 weeks from the roast date, stored in an airtight, opaque container away from light and moisture. The roast date on the packaging is a more reliable freshness indicator than the best-before date. Buying in smaller quantities more frequently is better than stocking up in bulk.
